Every Wednesday evening except holidays and summer.
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Kings Way Care Centre, 8 Squire Drive in Quispamsis, NB (it's the seniors home on the Gondola Point Arterial) - in the Boardroom.
We'd love to meet you.
There are no meetings on storm days.
The meeting starts with an invocation. As a guest, you can expect to be introduced to the group at the beginning of the meeting.
After your introduction and a brief intro into the meeting, the chair will ask member to explain what duties they are doing throughout the meeting. These are duties such as speech timer, grammarian, awards master, etc.
After the explanation of meeting roles, we generally have a business section. This helps us practise those skills needed in the business and volunteer world.
The business section is normally followed by Table Topics. Various people are asked questions. Each speaker then has two minutes to answer the question. They can change the subject if they want. They can be humorous. Or they can be sad. Afterwards, people vote for the Table Topic they enjoyed the most.
After the break comes the speech section. Various speakers present speeches generally ranging from 5 to 15 minutes in length. Again, people vote for the best speaker.
Evaluations, awards and wrap up conclude the evening.
You don’t have to speak unless you want to. Someone will introduce you. You may be given the opportunity to participate in Table Topics. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to.
At the end of the evening, guests have the opportunity to say what they thought of the meeting. But again, this is voluntary.
The white strips of paper in front of you are for voting for best Table Topic, Speech, and Evaluation. You will see that the strips at the bottom have this printed on them.
You don’t have to vote if you don’t want to.
But if you want to, then tear off the bottom section and vote for the Table Topic speaker you enjoyed most. Then fold the paper in half and place in the basket when the basket is passed around.
If you want to vote for the best speech, then do so. Same with the best evaluation.
Ask someone who the VP of Membership is. They will give you a form to fill out, as well as a membership package. The Treasurer will take your payment. Our fees are reasonable and are about the cost of a Starbucks coffee each week..
In addition, if you haven’t been a Toastmaster before, there is a small joining fee that covers the cost of your manual and magazines.
After doing this, all you have to do is get working on your first speech. That should be a breeze, given that the topic is YOU!
